This is what happens to those who are sincere and have sacrificed much for the protection and good of their country.

Another feather in the cap for Musharraf the SabziWala.

Whereas I share your sentiments about musharraf, I dont think your judgements about AQKhan are justified.I will gladly accept that he could not have been the only person involved in the Nuclear black market, but the father of the bomb,HE WAS NOT. He is another pakistani , a typical attention grabber and publicity mad man who did little and relied more on his reputation. The real architects were people like Munir Ahmed and Dr Samar Mubarakmund, nad they have never really claimed to be anything more than mere workers and scientists.

Who were the architects of the nuclear bomb shouldn’t be revealed but rather covered up and that was the mistake that Mr AQ Khan fell for. He was the brilliant scientist who led the Uranium team during the early 70s when he was first recruited. His role was to lead the then group of scientist away from the Plutonium and into Uranium technology he envisaged it and could correctly be said “fathered” it. So in that case he did “father” Pakistan’s first nuclear weapon but without a doubt he could not have done without the likes of many prominent scientists as you mentioned Araz. These were bad times for Pakistan when AQ Khan bulged into a political role, a sad history about Pakistan when a military dictator in particular Zia-ul-Haq whom you can accredit for being “father” of AQ Khan’s fame and brilliance. This where AQ Khan’s role shifted he became a “patriot”, “the man behind Pakistan’s bomb”, “ The brains of the Project” he was made into the centre of attraction. He is to blame for what he put himself into, not knowing he was being used by Zia to cover up the Siachen tensions with India he(AQ Khan) was put forward to ease the tensions by revealing in a banquet held in Pakistan by General Zia during a visit by the Indian delegation. In this visit the usual diplomatic attaches attended of both sides and group of journalist of which a prominent Indian journalist here AQ Khan played his role after he was allowed to mingle in and answer what India always wanted know does Pakistan have the nuke or not. His reply we did and we were in the phase of deploying it against any aggression we may face. Delhi got the signals from Pakistan it was over they got “the bomb” soon US submitted its formal reply to Pakistan’s pursuit for the nuke. This was the fatal error that AQ Khan made he should never have found himself there and never have revealed himself.

Yet not understanding fully in what he got himself into he again fell for it by Musharraf and once again put on the spotlight to reveal another dark secret in front of the world by confession. This was final and last favour he completed before being put on house arrest and painstakingly being called a proliferator and having a nuclear black market. From being known as the “father” of the Uranium technology to being accused by ludicrous charges of being the “father”/mastermind behind the nuclear black market. This scarred Pakistan’s reputation as a responsible nuclear state and both events took place during a dark time of Pakistan history where a military dictators fools people into believing they are doing a duty for their nation.
