Talking HP camera 'can't see' black faces

A YouTube video suggesting that face recognition cameras installed in HP laptops cannot detect black faces has had over one million views.

The short movie, uploaded earlier this month, features "Black Desi" and his colleague "White Wanda".
When Wanda, a white woman, is in front of the screen, the camera zooms to her face and moves as she moves.
But when Desi, a black man, does the same, the camera does not respond by tracking him.
The clip is light-hearted in tone but is titled "HP computers are racist".
"HP has been informed of a potential issue with the facial-tracking software included on some of its systems, which appears to occur when insufficient foreground lighting is available," an HP spokesman told BBC News.
"We take this seriously and are looking into it with our partners."

This isn't the first time HP has been accused of blatant racism and discrimination, either through their marketing operations or within the company itself. I know a few HP employees and was amazed at their transformation while working for these, how shall I put it...crazy ****s

I've personally boycotted all their products. I only mess with Alienware and Sony/Toshiba/Acer now. HP/Compaq can take their cheap racist plastic and shove it, I've seen them up close and not impressed. For those that think this is just a coincidence or technical error.... HA! Everything is tested beyond belief before it hits the shelves. This company does get kicks out of stunts like this, because it is ran by a bunch of lame college kids who will hopefully run the company into the ground soon.

Come on. It could be just a glitch in the system. How can simple camera be racist? It doesn't have any artificial intelligence think of it own. HP won't want lose money for nothing. Do they???

Well, a simple glitch would be, if it just didnt recognize any sort of face or started to bob up an down without a reason...laws of production are that you ALWAYS test run/experiment/trail run all your gadgets and gizmos so that they cater for the general consumer.

HP is quite defiant in the face of market demand etc. What, do the high muckamucks at HP think ''blacks wont buy this camera''....even better maybe they thought they were making a theft protection devise (NOT being rasict...rather the opposite)....since some people just assume naturally that most coloured people will nick that item rather than buy it!

Shame on you, hoochie poochies at HP!
