India protests to Turkey for not getting Istanbul meet invite

PTI
Friday, January 29, 2010 18:41 IST

New Delhi: India has lodged a protest with Turkey for not being invited to a conference of Afghanistan's immediate neighbours held in Istanbul this week and that country was "apologetic" (yeah right) over the action.

"It was unfortunate that India was not invited to the conference. We have taken up the matter with the Turkish government....They were very apologetic," highly-placed sources said here today.

Asked about the reason for such an action, they said it seems Turkey was deferential to Pakistan's wishes.

According to reports, India's absence at the conference of Afghanistan and its six immediate neighbours, held on Tuesday, stemmed from Pakistan's objection conveyed to the Turkish side.

It was attended by Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari, Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai and senior diplomats and ministers from the UK, the US, Iran, Tajikistan, China, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan, the UAE and Russia among others.

Asked about India's view on the re-integration of pro-Taliban elements who want to join the mainstream, the sources said "let's give it a chance", indicating that New Delhi is not completely opposed to holding talks with them.

They said Afghanistan government has a "delicate" task of re-integrating such elements.

Sources said India will continue to work to make itself relevant in Afghanistan.

Excellent play.

India complaining about not being invited to a meeting of Afghanistan's direct neighbors and true leaders and/or active important states of the South-West Asian region is more pathetic and amusing then a few Pakistani cricket players complaining about the "snub" at the IPL...

Good thing nuisance states were kept out of the important regional talks and meetings...

Sorry mate, but that very "nuisance" state has poured endless money to make Afghanistan a thriving nation again.

These conferences will change nothing. Afghanistan's decisions will.

Thats the price you were willing to pay to set foot on Afghani ground to contain Pakistan. It was your choice, not theirs.
Btw, Afghani's can be bought easily so there's still hope for you on next summit. :D

They've already been brought over.
The summit is for the next bidder.
Hope you're able to direct some of those American funds to atleast make a start.

That IPL snub really seems to have worked.

BTW, Indian contribution is there on the ground in Afghanistan.

These talks are not relevant, the ground situation in Afghanistan is.

Someone was creating so many threads some time back, jumping around about the pathetic OIC resolutions on Kashmir or getting excited about some Saudi about to deliver Kashmir to Pakistan.

Then the hopes shifted to kaffir China.

At least one can't accuse some of not being optimistic! ;)

Hell, they won't survive if they were not. Reality is just so depressing for some.

What funds are you referring to?
We don't owe Afghanistan any money.

Could you please refer to China as China only without calling her kaffir?
Its kind of annoying.
Do you see any Pakistani poster calling her kaffir?

That is mainly for some Islamists. Just to remind them that Pakistanis used to call the USSR as Godless communists during the Afghan war.

I know it is annoying for some. That is the point. ;)

And why not?

You make so much of Kashmir and Palestine. Why not Uighurs?

Just because you think China will throw some goodies at you?
