Two people are dead after a pornographic text message sparked tribal violence in Papua New Guinea's southern highlands.

The violence flared on Saturday when a young man from the Tapo clan in Tari sent a pornographic text message to a woman in the Pipi clan.

The girl was offended and showed the image to her brother, who gathered his clansmen and attacked the Tapos with home-made guns, bush knives and bows and arrows.

One man was killed in the clash and Superintendent Jimmy Onopia says another man was pulled from a bus and killed with an axe yesterday.

"Two people have died, several have been wounded, several houses have been burnt down," he said.

Superintendent Onopia says the situation is now calm and police are helping to negotiate a peaceful resolution.

I am sure being a prior ''girl'' and now a ''lady'' I can relate.....but I was still wondering.....

Even if she did get a dirty text message from some cheap perv why did she have to show it to her brother? There are somethings men dont know and should know, what's the use stirring shit in the already troubled waters?

Only three question to her from me....a self proclaimed feminist (but not when the woman is obviously wrong)

1- Had she never gotten ''uncalled for'' attention from the opposite sex?

2- Was her brother her bessie (best friend or something that she had to share it with him)?

3 Does she feel a little bit responsible for the death of the two men killed?

^^ I would go for the simplest explanation.

That she was disgusted and may be a bit afraid. She needed help and decided to seek it from her brother.

I don't think she is responsible for the death. She is a victim here. It is the tribal mentality pervading there and possible lack of rule of law.

Keeping it private could have only emboldened the sender of the SMS. I don't think disclosing it to his brother was wrong on her part. A girl doesn't have to be a silent victim all the time!
