Default Pakistan Hockey club

Now Im quite lover of hockey since childhood and there is a championship on right now and Pakistan are in the finals.

So far this what happened.

Semis

Pakistan beat India 6-3 in field hockey

SALTA, Argentina: Pakistan beat India 6-3 to set up a final against New Zealand in Champions Challenge field hockey.

Today was the match against New Zealand, which Pakistan lost by 4-2, unlucky but very couragous and well done. Its a shame that this is our real national sport hockey which is ignored by the media.

So there was my announcement.

Unfortunately we lost the finals against the black caps(New Zealand) but I was quite delighted to see Pakistan play in the finals. That is what I thought would bring spirts together even if we lost, but I havent even heard any news on hockey for Pakistan on the mass media.

Pakistan march into final with 6-3 demolition of India

Monday, December 14, 2009

SALTA, Argentina: Pakistan, powered by a hat-trick from forward Rehan Butt, routed India 6-3 to set a final clash with New Zealand in Champions Challenge Cup hockey tournament at the Popeye baseball club here on Saturday.

In an action packed second-half, Pakistan outclassed their arch-rivals with a flurry of attacks, hammering their last three goals in the final ten minutes after India staged a comeback by scoring two goals in the space of six minutes after the Greenshirts led 3-1 at the end of the first-half.

New Zealand scored a narrow 3-2 win over hosts Argentina to move into the final after leading 2-1 at half-time. Apart from Rehan Butt’s hat-trick, the first of the tournament, Sohail Abbas struck twice and Haseem Khan scored a field goal in a match as India helplessly suffered the wrath of an electrifiying Pakistan forward line. For India, Dhananjay Mahadik scored twice while Diwakar Ram scored once.

Pakistan stamped their supremacy with a second-minute goal when Rehan received a brilliant cross from Shakeel Abbasi in the heart of the striking circle scored with a strong shot. The lead proved short lived and India made it 1-1 off their first penalty corner translated by Dhananjay in an indirect drill.

With teams at par, the game turned into an absorbing battle before Rehan struck his second goal in the 29th minute after Waseem Ahmad’s brilliant pass as he set him up by beating a couple of onrushing Indian defenders.

Drag-flick ace Sohail Abbas then came into action after scoring a goal off the second short corner; three minutes before the close of the first session.

The second-half saw the most dramatic part of the match. Hasaam produced a Pakistan fourth goal in the 58th minute but India narrowed the lead in the 62nd minute as Dhananjay scored off their third short corner.

The Pakistan forwards then combined to shatter the India’s already fragile confidence as Rehan completed his hat-trick off a pass from Akhtar in the 64th minute.

India made the score a little more respectable when Diwakar made it 3-5 off their 6th penalty corner in the 67th minute but it was Pakistan who had the last laugh as Sohail Abbas converted a penalty stroke in the final minute of the match.

Black Sticks wins final Champion Challenge I

At the BDO Champions Challenge in Salta, New Zealand triumphed over Pakistan after an excellent Final (4-2), India won the bronze with a last minute goal over Argentina (3-2), South Africa convincingly beat China for 5th place (5-0) while Belgium edged Canada (2-0) for 7th place.

Game 20 – Final – New Zealand v. Pakistan: 4-2 (half-time: 2-2)

Statistics between the two teams before this final (compiled by B.G.Joshi, Bhopal, India):
Matches played: 43 - Pakistan won 34, New Zealand won 4 - 5 draws

Goals for Pakistan: 149 - Goals for New Zealand: 65
Biggest Wins for Pakistan: 12-3 in 1982 World Cup in Mumbai
Biggest Wins for New Zealand: 7-1 in 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games
Last played: 2009 Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh: New Zealand won 2-1

The much expected Final between New Zealand and Pakistan, the top two ranked teams in the competition, started immediately at high pace. New Zealand had to concede a penalty-corner in the 7th minute, and Sohail ABBAS scored it dutifully although Kyle PONTIFEX got a piece of the shot. New Zealand replied with a penalty-corner of their own, using an option with Ryan ARCHIBALD deflecting on the post.

The game was back to square one and the initial nerves shaken. New Zealand then scored a sumptuous goal by Phillip BURROWS diving full length to deflect a cross from the left, then read well the second penalty-corner for ABBAS. Pakistan could not penetrate the compact New Zealand defense and tried to use long passes but they seldom came close enough to be dangerous, let alone win the coveted penalty-corner for ABBAS to officiate. It is finally in the last minute of the period that Rehan BUTT pounced on a ball in the crowded circle and acrobatically managed to shoot it out of reach of PONTIFEX.

Second half started under hot summer sun finally arrived over Salta. New Zealand were consistently dangerous upfront by Simon CHILD, Phillip BURROWS and Ryan ARCHIBALD, circulating the ball with speed and accuracy. Their best chance was for Nicholas WILSON, deflecting the ball from close range on the crossbar, but the score did not evolve.

Pakistan had three additional unsuccessful penalty-corners then New Zealand scored two goals in quick succession in the last five minutes, first by Steven EDWARDS then Phillip BURROWS, both at the conclusion of fast offensive moves that swept away the Pakistani defense.

Sohail ABBAS missed another penalty-corner and New Zealand could soon celebrate their first Champions Challenge victory with their traditional haka.

Thats a interesting thing you noted though I think it is part of tradition in Pakistan to have "mooshi" even our Army has them as part of cultural aspect.

Though about the Pakistan team, tbh you should be more proud of them since they have won more world cups and made more records than any of our other sports.

They are a very good team, we can say we have one of the best players available to us. But our national team is neglected by many and that is heart breaking.

Here have a look at our achievements in hockey,

You will be proud of them
