Video Games and Modern Warfare
I bought the second offering of Modern Warfare and was shocked at some of the realism. It actually felt like I was putting bullets down range at someone hiding in a window of a barn, as I lay in prone position in the grass firing off what sounded to me like a fairly realistic rendition of an FN FAL battle rifle. This game is amazing for the gaming world, but also interesting for the military and it's operations and training realms as well. I am sure they are looking into a synthetic 3D approach to training their soldiers as you remove all unnecessary risk and wastage of resources. Medics are learning surgery with robots and sometimes software. Soldiers will undoubtedly start doing the same in more and more ways every year. This game is just a good start for what the future will bring. 20 years ago this wasn't possible. 20 Years from now we will be laughing at how fake this all looked like compared to the googleplex sized memory bringing virtual reality on our sunglasses, requiring full use of our body in tandem with the virtual world. The military will also be the source of the best software as it almost always has and this may be applied to the gaming world in the next generation of platforms.
