Default Indian Militarys Hot Answer to Terrorism = Chilli

India to use chillies to tackle suspects
The world's hottest chilli is the Indian military's newest anti-terrorism weapon.

GAUHATI-The Indian military has a new weapon against terrorism: the world’s hottest chili.

After conducting tests, the military has decided to use the thumb-sized “bhut jolokia,” or “ghost chili,” to make tear gas-like hand grenades to immobilize suspects, defence officials said Tuesday.

The bhut jolokia was accepted by Guinness World Records in 2007 as the world’s spiciest chili. It is grown and eaten in India’s northeast for its taste, as a cure for stomach troubles and a way to fight the crippling summer heat.

It has more than 1,000,000 Scoville units, the scientific measurement of a chili’s spiciness. Classic Tabasco sauce ranges from 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units, while jalapeno peppers measure anywhere from 2,500 to 8,000.

“The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defence laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defence Research and Development Organization,” Col. R. Kalia, a defence spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.

“This is definitely going to be an effective nontoxic weapon because its pungent smell can choke terrorists and force them out of their hide-outs,” R. B. Srivastava, the director of the Life Sciences Department at the New Delhi headquarters of the DRDO said.

Srivastava, who led a defence research laboratory in Assam, said trials are also on to produce bhut jolokia-based aerosol sprays to be used by women against attackers and for the police to control and disperse mobs.

Immobilize suspects? Isnt it supposed to be the other way round? I am sure anyone who has been in the firing line must agree that tear gas doesnt immobilse you, rather makes you run like crazy!

In other words "we thoroughly tested it on the Shudars and other untouchables from Scheduled Castes and found that it caused permanent blindness and / or chemical burns to the mouth, throat, and lungs of only 70% of test subjects."

Like you test your stuff on Shias or any of the 200+ odd sects that are condemned to eternal hellfire! Just for being born in the wrong sect!

Sorry, our constitution doesn't allow that. We don't fill out our passport forms swearing that Ahmedias are not Muslims.

Anyway the best test candidates for this are the terrorists coming from across the border. I am sure we have enough of them in custody to try this on and see the impact on the "right target audience". ;)

What do you suggest? If it works can you be kind enouh to send some over the border? We might need a few for the lovely "tabla players" if they try something that doesnt seem "kosher".

Yah Lady Macbeth you are absolutely correct I have myself been part of many protests where tear gas shells get shot.A good way to deal with this problem is to wrap your mouth and nose with a wet handkerchief, and wear a sunglass to protect your eyes,(this also gives you some degree of anonymity).Another popular tactics during 70s was to grab the shell with a piece of cloath or a heavy duty gloves before they explode(the shells are hot after being shot),and then throw them back to the cops.(Hahahah get a taste of ur own medicine).

Bhut Jolokia is not far behind any weapon grade pepper spray irritant ammunition as far as the capsaicin content is concerned. Higher concentration of Jolokia would do the trick. If so why not go for an organic and much cheaper solution? The only difference I can see of is chili weapon is cheap and natural and easly available.

To immobilize anyone flash-stun grenade could be a cheap and effective option bcoz it contains flash powder which upon explosion causes temporary blindness and the sound of the explosion causes temporary disorientation.SWATs use the so that must be effective.
