Bollywood actor Anupam Kher pulls out from Hitler film

The lead actor in a proposed Bollywood film on Adolf Hitler has withdrawn from the controversial project.

Anupam Kher wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter that he was not going to play the German dictator in Dear Friend Hitler.

"Sometimes human emotions are more important than cinema," Mr Kher wrote explaining his decision to withdraw.

The project drew protests from Jewish groups in India and outside and was condemned by historians.

Mr Kher withdrew from the project after criticism

"Thanks for your varied reactions to my opting out of Hitler. After 400 films in 26 years I have the right to be wrong and still be happy," the actor wrote on Twitter.

In a statement to news agency Reuters, Mr Kher said: "Considering the ill-will that the project is generating among my fans, I wish to withdraw from it as I respect their sentiments."

The project was criticised after director Rakesh Ranjan Kumar said the film would show Hitler's "love" for India.

Mr Kher said he chose Dear Friend Hitler as the film's title because that is how Mahatma Gandhi had referred to Hitler in his letters.

But several historians questioned the claim saying that the German dictator had no respect for Indians and that he regarded them as racially inferior.

I can almost imagine if the movie was about some topic sensitive to Islam and Muslims had protested, how the world (leave aside the Indians) would have addressed it..... with as much venom and disdain as the one encountered over the burqa ban/Danish cartoon/minaret ban.......Bah Humbug, well that's no fun!! (not that I am advocating disrespecting any religious/personal beliefs)

'Pink Hitler' advertisement upsets Sicilians

An advert for a clothing shop that features Adolf Hitler dressed in pink has provoked outraged reactions in Italy.

The posters were put up in the city of Palermo in Sicily, with the caption: "Change your style. Don't follow your leader".

The swastika on Hitler's armband has been replaced by a heart.

But the local association of wartime resistance fighters said the adverts were offensive to those who had fought fascism.

World War II resistance fighters wrote to the mayor demanding their immediate withdrawal.

A spokesman said that the posters violated democratic principles.

The advertising agency behind the posters told Italian media the aim was to ridicule Hitler, not minimise his crimes.

Hitler was no lover of India (or of any non white people). The people making this movie are deluded if they think so.

Hitler felt that Indians were incapable of governing themselves. He thought the British were doing a good job there.

Basically he thought the white "Aryan" race had the right to rule over all others and was responsible for almost all the world's scientific and cultural progress. He had nothing but contempt for all "lesser" races.

Another love story movie from Bollywood I soo wanna watch this movie even though I have never seen a Bollywood movie. I just wanna see when Hitler starts dancing in the fields with his love of his life LOL.
