Yury Luzhkov, Mayor of Moscow, told a conference on Monday that he would not allow a gay rights parade in the city and any unsanctioned efforts would face police power.

"A gay parade... cannot be called anything but a Satanic act," said Luzhkov at an education conference, according to reports from AFP. "We haven't permitted such a parade and we won't permit it in the future... It's high time that we stop propagating nonsense discussions about human rights, and bring to bear on them the full force and justice of the law."

Organizers have confirmed that they still plan on holding the parade on May 29 despite Luzhkov's objections.

"It's the same old medieval homophobic rhetoric," Gay Rights activist Nikolai Alexeyev told Reuters, adding that the Gay Rights movement were looking to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to support their position that a ban on the marches is illegal.

Luzhkov has become well known for his opposition to the gay rights movement in Moscow - having previously branded the parades "satanic" in 2007. The city's Orthodox Church and far right groups have also vowed to disrupt any parades.

This is a dumb and childish act and resppnse by the Mayor of Moscow, a supposed hotbed of reform and democracy for Russians is nothing more than the same medieval mafia running it, starting from the mass murders of the royal family and brutality of the Tsarists and Reds to the days where Putin can still keep top positions after decades in the KGB and Presidency.

The Chechen episodes are a big shame for the country as well in recent times. Chechnya still remains a base of opposition mainly funded by the West and Islamic charities that will keep Russia massacring civilians and vice versa.

Unreasonable anger and intolerance towards anyone different to you is the enemy of correct understanding.......The ones pushing for such enforcements and implementing paranoid rules and regulations do not realize that it is ''them'' who are enacting on doltish grass roots.

Not many amongst us are advocates of same sex relationships etc but what we dont understand we must not scorn.

Same should be the case with ways of living and ideologies of people from different backgrounds, could be anything from harmless religion to leisure societies etc.

We have a long way to go if we are to live in harmony with each other.....understanding the differences and accepting ''due'' anomalies is the first step.
