Pak economy suffered trillions of dollar loss since 9-11

LAHORE: The world candidly acknowledged several times that Pakistan is the only country in the globe that suffered record colossal irreparable loss of trillions of dollars since 9-11 debacle including a serious blow to the national economy.

Pak-US Business Council’s Founder Chairman and veteran trade leader Iftikhar Ali Malik while talking to APP here Monday on 10th anniversary of 9-11 tragedy said that the United States (US) President Barack Obama on this occasion announced 440 trillion dollar package for his country, whereas he should have also announced the same incentives for the quick revival of Pak economy as the country offered tremendous human sacrifices for stamping out the menace of terror in the region.

Malik said that at least the US President must have announced free market access to Pak products as already promised by the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the visit to Pakistan. He said that President US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) Thomas Donohue had fully supported the long-standing demand of duty-free imports of Pak products on urgent basis.

“According to statistics, Pakistan has sustained loss of at least 4$ trillion including $200 billion to its economic sector in the aftermath of 9-11 debacle and turmoil in Afghanistan,” said Malik.

He said Pakistan’s national economy continued to suffer tremendously rendering millions of people jobless. In the prevailing scenario, the US must provide direct market access to Pak products on zero rate duty to help stabilise the country’s bleak economy instead of any grant or aid.

Malik said, “The US should buy back products from industrial zones in Pakistan and help strengthen the existing industrial zones with the provision of modern infrastructure.” app
