Default Pakistan's exports to China increased by 96.70% in first quarter of 2010

Exports to China during first quarter touch $0.41 billion

RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI (June 30 2010): Pakistan's exports to China during the first quarter of 2010 recorded at $0.41 billion showing an increase of 96.70 percent compared with the same period of last year.

According to a report of Pakistani commercial counsellor in China, the main commodity causing increase in exports to China from Pakistan during the first quarter of this year is, of course, cotton yarn/fabric the export of which touched to $276 million which accounts for over 67 percent of total exports of Pakistan to China during the quarter, the report added.

"Since there was an increase in international demand for cotton yarn and prices were also higher in international market, therefore, there was a surge in export of cotton yarn globally and to China as well. Ores, slag and ash, accounting for 13 percent of total exports of Pakistan to China during the quarter, showed increase of $47 million, 695.31 percent increase compared with the same period of 2009", it said.

It should be noted that the increase of exports of capper waste/wire in this quarter, it said, increased by $55,533.33 percent compared with the same period of 2009, contributed 15.83 percent of the increase in total exports to China from Pakistan. The report said that few other items also showed surge in exports but their overall effect is small as compared to those three items. On the other hand Beijing's exports to Pakistan during the first quarter of 2010 were $1.35 billion showing decrease of 17.42 percent compared with the same period last year, it added.
