Cargo train service between Pakistan, Turkey before August: envoy
PESHAWAR (April 23 2010): Turkey's ambassador to Pakistan, Babur Hizlan, has said that a cargo train service between Turkey and Pakistan would be started before August this year to promote bilateral trade between the two countries. He was addressing a meeting of the industrialists and traders of Peshawar during his visit to Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) here on Thursday. President, SCCI, Riaz Arshad presided over the meeting.
Those, who attended the meeting, are included vice presidents, Faiz Mohamamd Faizi, Zulfikar Ali Khan, former presidents, Malik Niaz Ahmad, Adeel Rauf, former president, Industrialists Association, Peshawar, Nauman Wazir, Maqsood Anwar Pervez and a large number of traders and industrialists.
Speaking on the occasion, Turkish ambassador said his country gives importance to relations with Pakistan and making investment in different sectors including hydel power generation. He said the volume of trade between the two countries is not satisfactory. However, in future, trade volume would be increased. He said the government should have to take measures for the promotion of trade relations and investment with Turkey.
Babur Hizlan agreed with the proposals and recommendations of SCCI for promotion of bilateral trade and taking measures for bringing of the business community of both countries close to each other. He said that the Turkish embassy in Islamabad is taking steps for bringing the business communities of both countries close.
Earlier, president SCCI, Riaz Arshad invited the Turkish investors to invest in the potential sector of hydel power generation in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province. He said the province has vast potential for investment and invited Turkish investors to come forward in making investment in the province.
He termed the volume of trade between the two countries as insufficient and said that the governments of both countries should play role in the promotion of investment in both countries. On this occasion, Adeel Rauf, Nauman Wazir, Zahidullah Shinwari, Engineer Maqsood Anwar Pervez and Zulfikar Ali Khan presented recommendations for the promotion of bilateral trade relations, investment and bringing of the business communities closer to each other.
