Default The “India Factor” in Indo-Bangladesh Relations

The “India Factor” in Indo-Bangladesh Relations

Taj Hashmi

Professor, APCSS, Honolulu, USA

One wonders as to why Sheikh Hasina and the admirers of her latest “gesture of good will” towards India are not cognizant of the “India Doctrine” at all. Cultivated assiduously by most Indian leaders from Nehru to Manmohan Singh (V.P. Singh and I.K.Gujral were possibly the only exceptions in this regard), this doctrine stands for two things: a) establishing Vrihat Bharat (Greater India) with a view to asserting Indian hegemony in the Indian Ocean and b) to extract maximum economic benefits and political leverage from smaller neighbours by intimidating them on a regular basis. As the act of not recalling Nehru’s not-so-hidden desire to undo the Partition of 1947 is a political blunder, particularly for Pakistan Bangladesh; so is forgetting about India’s annexation of Kashmir (1947), Hyderabad (1948), Goa (1961) and even independent Sikkim (1975).

Bangladesh made a mistake in not cleaning up the lot of the rezakaars in 1971.

India started the operation 1 day too soon!

It's ok sir. Let awami and bharat go their way to piss of patritic force in bd. Mujib demise did not happen out of no reason so la-hasina and rest of dalals deserve same brutal outcome. Bharat is a factor however awami is the real culprit and enemy of bangladesh.

So now these traitor Bihari rezakaars who were mistakenly forgiven by Muzib want to decide for Bangladesh.

These traitors are not needed anywhere. India kicked them out, Bangladesh found out their filth and treason in 1971, Pakistan didn't accept them knowing that they bite the hand that feeds them.

Mujib made a mistake of not wiping them out entirely and paid for that. Even now the Bangladeshis should complete the job.

^^ Don't take the Rezakaar traitors' views as the views of patriotic Bangladeshis.

It's funny how mushrik are talking behalf of awami and interest of Bangladeshi muslim as if we do no know their motive. I can understand their crocodile tear as they failed to dominate over bangladesh for last 38 years. It should be pointed out that mushrik loving mujib tried to impose hinduani culture on bangladeshi muslim thus his life was ended. Bharati can patronize awami as much as it wants but islamic force is capable of strik in the right moment. 5th, 6th or 8th Amendment can go but muslim won't so keep the dream alive mushrik and as a mater of fact, we want awami to take anti islamic stance for muslim to realize the enemy within.
