Khaleda against giving corridor to India in name of Asian Highway
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Thursday night questioned how Bangladesh security would be ensured if it allows India to use 300-400 kms of road as corridor in the name of Asian Highway.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Thursday night questioned how Bangladesh security would be ensured if it allows India to use 300-400 kms of road as corridor in the name of Asian Highway.
“India has refused on security ground to allow Bangladesh to use its 15-17 kms of road to connect Bangladesh with Nepal through Banglabandh. If that country cannot, how can we do that?” she questioned.
Khaleda made the remarks while exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community at her Gulshan office on the occasion of Janmashtami.
She said India allowed their corridor only for 24 hours but later stopped it on their security concern.
Personalities from different professions of the Hindu community and its religious leaders attended the function and exchanged greetings with Khaleda Zia.
Among others, BNP leaders Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Goutam Chakravarty, Barkatullah Bulu and Nitai Chnadra Roy spoke on the occasion.
The BNP chairperson called upon all to prepare for a strong movement to resist India from constructing Tipaimukh Dam.
Criticizing the Awami League government for its “various misdeeds and anti-people activities”, she said the ruling party is out to destroy BNP instead of fulfilling its election pledges.
Begum Zia alleged that the present government is following the footstep of the last military-backed caretaker government to make Bangladesh a dysfunctional state.
The former premier said the people of all faiths -- Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists -- are equal as they all are the citizens of Bangladesh.
She greeted the Hindu community on the occasion of Janmashtami.
Referring to AL torture on the minorities, Khaleda said it is not BNP but AL is a communal party.
About her party’s ongoing reorganization process, she said the leaders and workers of her party will not be evaluated on the basis of their religions but their leadership quality and competence.
