France to Give Eurocopter Tiger Helicopters to Pakistan

France has agreed to provide Tigre Attack helicopter to Pakistan in line with its growing use against the foreign financed terrorists operating in tribal areas of Pakistan. This news got published in Daily Dawn and the excerpt is below:

France will provide Tiger combat helicopters and military equipment to Pakistan to enhance its capacity to fight terrorism. This was stated by Admiral Edouard Guillaud, Military Personal Staff Adviser to French President, during a series of meetings he held here on Thursday with top political and military leaders, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Tariq Majid and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Official sources said that helicopters to be provided by France would be equipped with ground-to-ground missiles with semi-active laser seekers with a range of over 8km.

The multi-role helicopters have modern avionics and radars and can be equipped with anti-tank missiles. Admiral Guillaud commended Pakistan’s determination and resolute action to clear its soil of terrorists and eliminate extremism.

Very good news and very exciting news, how many Eurocopter Tiger Helos are they willing to provide? (Or is that classified information)

Also let's make a distinction between France giving us the Eurocopter Tiger Helos, I presume as a loan, and selling us these Eurocopter Tiger Helos. Perhaps in a future proposal France will officially agree to offer/sell the Eurocopter Tiger to Pakistan.

Also let's not forget PAA (Pakistani Army Aviation) must first train on the Eurocopter Tiger before this Helo can be active and used in Pakistan's WoT. This will take time. The great advantage of having the Eurocopter Tiger is greater accuracy-less civilian causalities, greater fire power, long range attacks, greater night time fighting capability, and more.

Nonetheless, it's great to see the epic attack helicopter the mighty Eurocopter Tiger coming to Pakistan.

Probably a handful will be inducted around 2011-12 a few squadrons or so I am only guessing. Wiki has it sourced as 18-25 though don't know where they got the numbers from. Later when the WZ-10 from China becomes operational after getting their WZ-9 engine up and running we should look into those as well to supplement them, an army our size requires in my estimation at least 120 dedicated attack helis. T-129 Atak from Turkey is another option though will not be as feasible as Tigers or the option from China.

Unhappy Re: France to Give Eurocopter Tiger Helicopters to Pakistan

Main thing which is preventing this deal from finalizing is lack of money at our side. France would give us these choppers tomorrow if we pay them today.

the french never give anything away.Everything has a price of its own(usually high). From the immediate need point of view, these helos are useless as they will need atleast a year or more before they ccna be inducted even if they were to be supplied today due to training issues. Also they are quite expensive .
