Default Forum Rules

Dear friends,

Pakistan Defence Review is a professional board which grants equal rights to all members regardless of their nationality, color or religion. The main goal is to portray a soft but unbiased image of Pakistan, one concordant with facts that combat misperceptions through quality debates.

Forum rules are there to give you guidance and should be respected at all times.

PDR is a Pakistan-centric International board which provides substantial space for non Pakistani's to share their views about Pakistani affairs. Being critical is acceptable, bashing is not.

PDN Forum Rules - updated

No Discrimination, - You may not insult members based on their religion, race, sex, political beliefs, or whether they are gay or straight. This is worse than flaming, because it also hurts other members of the board who fall into the catagory you insult. PDR is a place where everyone is equal, and discrimination will NOT be tolerated!

No Bullying - Do not pick on other members. The worst kind of bullying is where new members are picked on. This hurts the member as well as the board.

No Flaming - Flaming harms the nice atmosphere of PDR. It also causes thread's to go off topic, and most importantly, it hurts the person being flamed. The victim may defend themselves against any accusations made to them, but may not make any additional accusations to the flamer (which also counts as flaming).

No Profanity or Obscene Content - Such content does not belong on PDR. If you see words in your post being replaced with ****, or you get a warning from one or more of the Admins/Mods, you have done something wrong. Please edit your post and tone it down.

No Hacking - This should go without saying, but you are not permitted to hack the board. Guessing someone else's password and succeeding counts as hacking. Members who hack will instantly be permanently banned without any warnings.

No Advertising - You are not permitted to make money using PDR. You are not allowed to use the member list to obtain Instant Messenging screennames to harrass people to purchase a product from you.

No Illegal Activity - You are not allowed to break the law using this forum. This can get PDR into legal trouble. Posting links to ROMs is illegal, so this counts as a violation of this rule.

No Spamming - You may post more than once in a row in the same thread but posting lots of times in a row reduces the quality of the board, is a waste of the board's memory, and provides the culprit with ill earned post count points. Posts of low quality add nothing to the forum, and may be deleted at Moderator discretion. Spamming is also not allowed, and is defined as a post that has no meaning.

No Abuse of PM's - You will not use private message system to spam multiple members. You agree that the private messages are confidential. You will not post or publicly display PM’s of PDR staff or any member. Unless given full permission to do so from the author in writing, PDN staff must be notified for further action. You will be banned if you misuse our PM system; PDN fully respects your privacy and asks members to help us in maintaing this privacy.

No Topic Bumping - If a topic you created has no replies you are not allowed to keep going on and on with the same slant. If you made the thread because you need help with something, you may post again as long as you include additional information about your problem (the fact that you really really want it fixed does not count as additional information). You must post this in the same thread, and you are not allowed to create more than one thread per topic.

No Posting Personal Info - You may not post your last name, telephone number or your street address on PDR. This is because this information then becomes accessible to anyone.

No Threatening to Leave the Board - Due to past experiences on the board, the admins have had to add this rule. You may not make posts threatening to leave the board. This causes flaming to occur. Outright bannings without warning may be given. Anyone responding poorly to these threads may also be banned.

No Oneliners - One-line responses to posts do not add any flow to discussion and will be removed; we encourage members to report such posts in order to maintain a quality discussion board.

If you have a habit of posting one-liners, just smilies or feckless sentences like ''So true'', ''I know'', ''you are wrong'' etc mods can and will remove those posts. A warning will also be given to offenders.

No Multiple Accounts - You do not create accounts “to talk to yourself” to disrupt the forum or to use them spoof your identity, this is a violation of our terms of use, you will be banned and your accounts will be removed.

No Spaminvites - It has become a common practice by some boards to steal traffic, this is not allowed and ethically incorrect.

Bashing other Fora - We respect all international fora and will not allow this board to become a tool to bash others regardless their nationality.

Breaking rules result in punishments. There are several types of punishments:

Warning - This is where a public announcement is made that mentions your name and that you have broken a rule. Admin will determine whether you knew what you were doing was wrong or whether a warning is necessary to explain it do you. If the admins do not give a warning, they will skip ahead to the next step in the penalty list.

Temporary Ban - This is where you are not able to view the board for a certain period of time.

Permanent Ban - You can never again view the board.

The following are a set of amendments to clarify the rules for those people who wish to nitpick

1 - There are no excuses for breaking the rules. It doesn't matter if you were angry at the time and weren't thinking straight. It doesn't matter if you were only kidding around. If you break a rule, it does the same damage, regardless of your reasons for breaking it, and you will be punished all the same.

2 - Staff abuse will not be tolerated. As a staff member, your job is to help the people, not harm them. You may only use your powers for the purposes that they have been given to you for. There is no limit on how much you may be punished for this severe offense as this must be stopped at all costs to protect the people. This means that if you abuse your powers, there is a good chance you will be permanently banned.

3 - Harrassing the administration about punishments is not allowed. The admins are only trying to do their job, and many times they have to make difficult decisions. You may post your opinion in the thread that announces the punishment, so long as you do not flame anyone. If this thread gets out of hand, it will be closed, and you may not complain elsewhere on the board, or by other means including private messages, instant messaging programs, email, telephone calls, and ''house visits''. You also may not make threats against administrators (or other members for that matter...).

Punishments for harrassment range from a 1week day ban for minor harrasments to a permanent ban if serious threats are involved.

4 - If you break more than one rule, the punishments will stack up to a permanent ban if neccessary.

One of the goals of the moderator group is to ensure a hospitable atmosphere for the entirety of the membership. However if the peaceful nature of the staff here starts becoming exploited, we will unfortunately just have to start enforcing certain things capable minds should not don't have to worry about with a heavier hand. This is a Pakistani forum, as a Pakistani you are bound by an unspoken oath to em better every aspect of it with the same hospitable manner we are known for. You should not turn off other nationalities with closed minded thinking and views bordering on criminal. Secondly if you are not Pakistani you are a member of this forum and are here to learn about what is happening in the region or anything else, if you want to be taken seriously you must ensure others perceive you to be capable of such. It's not that we want every post to be a thesis, but we want you to make sense. We tolerate very harsh criticisms of all things if they are brought forth in an intelligent and responsible package. If not we will not waste our time in allowing off tangent bad behaviour to grasp a hold here. The goal of this forum is similar to open source technology...we would like for you to either learn something new, or help someone do the same. And all of this of course in a positive manner. When a chain link of negativity begins, we promise to remove the damaged link early. This in my essence is what I feel is our duty as mods at PSR and will continue to be.
