Pak capable of using motorway in war

ISLAMABAD: Aircrafts of Pakistan Air Force used motorway as runway for emergency landing, which included Pakistan in the list of countries capable of using motorways in war.
During the High Mark 2010 military exercises, Wing Commander Atta-ur-Rehman was flying Meraj whereas Squadron leader Nadeem Iqbal was flying F-7P when 9,000 ft long and 103 ft wide piece of Islamabad-Lahore motorway was used as runway.
In the 3-hour long exercises, the Pakistan Air Force fighters practiced picking up fuel and arms. Touch and go has been practiced on motorway during 2 earlier exercises whereas in High Mark 2010 exercises motorway has been used as airbase in emergency settings.
This part of exercises has been organised with the cooperation of Communication Ministry. Federal Minister Communication Arbab Alamgir, Air Vice Marshall Sohal Aman and other higher authorities of National High Way Authority and Motorway Police witnessed these practices. To prepare the runway for these exercises, blocks dividing the motorway were removed and tops of trees grown on an area of 3,000 ft on both sides of motorway were trimmed. SAMAA
