'Pak's counter strategy prevented Indian surgical strikes'

PTI, Mar 27, 2010

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's sound strategy to ward off threats like a possible surgical strike by India had barred the "adversary" from opting for any "extreme option" in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, the air force chief said on Saturday.

Asked during a news briefing about India's reported plans of carrying out surgical strikes in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai incident, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said the Pakistan Air Force had "immediately developed a strategy to counter the threat, which barred the adversary (from opting) for any extreme option".

"Our response time during such situations is from two to six minutes from the ground," he told the briefing held at the Air Headquarters here.

The "adversary did not dare to take any step" since it knew the capability of the PAF, he said.

The PAF is keeping a "watchful eye to safeguard the frontiers of the country" and effective systems are in place to cope with any situation, Suleman said.

Responding to another question, Suleman said the US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan "hardly commit any violation of Pakistan's airspace".

Pakistan has always strongly protested any airspace violation by the coalition forces, he added.

I believe India had no intentions to do a surgical strike, it would be devastating for them. These were merely bluffs to pressurize Pakistan which didnt work, if they tried this so called surgical strike they too will get beaten up pretty badly. India is in no position to fight us anymore they can build up as much arms they want, but the response they will get is full fledged war.

Hi,

Economically india had a lot more to lose than pakistan, if a war ever got started between the two nations. The air chief of pakistan is only blowing hot air---he has not given any proof what paf had that made india step back.

It is all hot air just to please the masses and fool them for a while longer. and amazingly, my pakistani colleagues are so much into it that they really really believe the statements of the ACM.

India would rue the moment in 2005 and then after the mumbai attacks for not finishing off the job that it has been telling its people---just like we do---the chances and oppurtunities we had. We are caste from the same mould---are scr-ew ups are very similiar as well.
