Chinese jets sales and intelligence satellite for Pakistan!
India not worried over Chinese jets sales to Pakistan
Saturday, November 14, 2009
NEW DELHI: India is not worried about reported sales of Chinese jets to Pakistan, said Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal PV Naik here on Friday.
“Do not worry and do not make people worry. Our country is strong enough. Our army, navy and air force are capable of looking after the interest of our country,” IAF Chief PV Naik told newsmen while responding to queries if the Chinese reported sale of J-10 fighter jets to Pakistan and their plans to launch an intelligence satellite is worrisome for India.
“When a sovereign country interacts with another country, there is no issue over selling weapons. It is up to them,” he said and added several countries had intelligence satellites and there were several types of satellites in space today.

Just wanted some input on this story, its boasting about an intelligence satellite venture, so are there any reports on this matter. I remember during this year the GoP was seeking or has bought a contract for an intelligence/imaging satellite to be used as surveillance system for our eastern borders, to survey the influx of immigrants and unwanted militants. However this news report boasts that we have also in process of acquiring our own intelligence satellite. Which may have many great applications aside from spying?

Re: Chinese jets sales and intelligence satellite for Pakistan!
Sat is old news. But it will not change much cause Pakistan has already the info. Now they can get direct access and all the time. That means nothing will be a secret if it is above the ground.
The planes are a problem for India. I think the person is lying when he says that another unkown plane will not make any difference. It is either shouting from the top (in Chinese case they can shout but it will not help that is why they try to diffuse it) or telling that they can handle it... Which is surely a bit egoistic.

From my understanding, I believe it's for Pakistan and it is Pakistan who will launch the intelligence satellite.
China already has several satellites in space. The recent project of an intelligence satellite is designed to give Pakistan access to space, intelligence gathering, imaging, monitoring various locations, and more.
Hope this answers your question.

Re: Chinese jets sales and intelligence satellite for Pakistan!
BTW, from this report it seems that it is Chinese spy satellite.
Chinese reported sale of J-10 fighter jets to Pakistan and their plans to launch an intelligence satellite.
There is no mention of it being given to Pakistan. Generally no country would part with a technology like spy satellite. It would be unusual to say the least.
Is there any other report that China is selling you a spy satellite?

Pakistan to launch first satellite in 2011
2009-08-18 17:52:25
ISLAMABAD, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Dr Samar Mubarakmand, a renowned Pakistani nuclear scientist, said that Pakistan would launch its first space satellite in April 2011, local media reported Tuesday.
Talking to a private TV channel on Tuesday, Dr Samar said the satellite, likely to be sent into earth orbit, would monitor mineral and agriculture programs and weather conditions.
He said this project is funded by the Pakistani Planning Commission and there is no scarcity of funds for nuclear and space projects of the country.
Dr Samar said the country's nuclear program was not inferior to any other country in its standard and proficiency.
Dr Samar is a nuclear scientist and nuclear physicist, and was the chairman of Pakistan's National Engineering and Scientific Commission in 2001-2007, according to local news agency NNI.
He largely contributed to the nuclear program of Pakistan and he was awarded three highest civil awards of the country. He got the national fame in May 1998 when he headed the scientists' team which conducted the six nuclear tests in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan province.

From my understanding, I believe it's for Pakistan and it is Pakistan who will launch the intelligence satellite.
If the experience of other nations is taken into account, you first start with sounding rockets, then small payloads in LEO, then graduate to higher orbits and payloads. A several decades long process!
Considering that one has not heard of you even launching the equivalent of ASLVs of ISRO (what India used to do in 80s), you have decades to go before you have a launcher capable of launching spy satellites.
Should have been obvious to any reasonably aware person.
BTW, forget about China helping you here to any significant extent. No one shares the space technology with others. No one wants rivals in this area and China doesn't gain anything wrt her aims regarding India by sharing space tech.

Re: Chinese jets sales and intelligence satellite for Pakistan!
A1kaid,
that is a telecom satellite that we will be launching in 2011 ( to fill up the space aloted to us lest we loose it like we lost previous ones). Those weather ones are low orbit ones. And I think a recent contract was signed with CHina to launch it for us.
From what I recall vaguely, it is a chinese military satellite that pakistan will also be using (like in communication, etc). Of course, there will be intelligence also but you won't find any official saying that.
I haven't exactly been following the news so some stuff might have slipped from my mind, hence the question.
